The one cookie: staying logged in
When you log in, the site sets a single cookie that keeps you logged in on that browser, so you don't need a new login link for every page. It's strictly necessary for the members' area to work. It lasts up to a year, or until you log out. It isn't used for tracking, analytics or advertising: nothing follows you to other websites, and nothing about you is sold or shared with advertisers.
What is stored on your device
Your browser's local storage keeps a handful of small values. None of them identifies you to anyone else. Most never leave your device. The exception is your study progress and drill record: as a member, those are also saved to your account, so your phone and your computer show the same progress (the privacy notice says exactly what is kept). Your exam dates stay on your device only.
- Your progress in Tab Up Your Books — which tabs you've ticked off.
- Your progress in Fault Hunter — whether you've seen the instructions, and your predictions.
- Your study progress — which parts you've read and which module tests you've passed, so the site can show you what to do next. Also saved to your account.
- Progress not yet sent — if your connection drops, what you've done waits here and goes to your account with the next page you open.
- Your drill record — which of the three-a-day questions you've already seen, how many times each module has gone wrong, and which days you used it. That is what lets the drill come back to your weak spots and count your days. Also saved to your account.
- Your exam dates — only if you put them in, so the home page can count them down. Just the dates. You can clear them from the same panel that sets them.
- Display choices — such as light or dark, whether the sidebar is folded, and whether the site tour's sound is muted.
Ask Sparky keeps your current conversation for the length of your visit only. Close the tab and it's gone.
How to clear it
Clearing your browser's site data for sparkystudynotes.co.uk removes all of it. The site will still work; it will just have forgotten your progress.
Other services
- Cloudflare — stores the video lessons and sends them when you press play. It sets no cookies.
- Netlify — hosts the site and keeps standard server logs.
