In short: these notes are meant to be usable by everyone studying for this
qualification. Most of the site is plain text and described diagrams. There are some problems we
know about, listed honestly below. If something stops you using the site,
tell us and we'll fix it.
What has been done
- Every diagram is described. Every figure carries a written description, so a screen reader reads out what the drawing shows rather than skipping it.
- Proper headings. Every page is built from real headings in order, so you can jump between sections instead of reading through.
- Keyboard use. Buttons, links and the Ask Sparky panel can be reached and used by keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are.
- Text scales. Zoom to 200% and the layout reflows. Nothing is pinned to a fixed size.
- Light and dark. The site follows your device's setting, and both are checked for contrast.
- Reduced motion. If your device asks for less movement, animations are turned off.
- No autoplay. Nothing plays sound unless you press something.
- Video captions. Every lesson is captioned throughout.
Problems we know about
We would rather tell you than claim the site is perfect.
- The public pages are dark only. The members' area follows your device's light or dark setting, or your own choice from the sidebar. The sales page, checkout and these legal pages stay dark whatever your setting.
- The PDFs aren't fully tagged. They are readable, and the text can be selected and searched, but they aren't structured for screen readers the way the web pages are. Use the web version if you rely on one.
- Video captions are burned into the picture. That means they can't be turned off, resized, or read by a screen reader. Every lesson has a notes page covering the same ground in text, which a screen reader can read.
- Some diagrams are detailed. Circuit drawings are described in words, but a complex drawing is still harder to follow by description alone than by sight.
If something doesn't work for you
Email us and say what you were trying to do and what got in the way. If you need a page, a section or a set of notes in a different format, ask — we'll send it.
