The café: Q4 to Q8A small café is being refitted. Two socket-outlets are being added to an existing ring final, and the lights on an existing lighting circuit are being changed for LED panels. The building has a new owner and there are no previous records, so they also want a periodic inspection and test of the rest of the installation. The supply is 230 V single-phase TN-C-S.

So there are three jobs: two small bits of work, plus a periodic.

Q4Book + knowledge of the forms

Which set of documents covers all of the inspection and testing in the café?

  1. aAn EIC with its schedules, plus one Minor Works certificate
  2. bAn EIC, a Minor Works certificate and an EICR
  3. cAn EICR with its inspection schedule, schedule of test results and schedule of circuit details, plus two Minor Works certificates
  4. dOne Minor Works certificate, with a schedule of inspections and a schedule of test results
  • a is out: there's no EICR, but a periodic is taking place.
  • b is out: there's no need for a full EIC. You're only adding to or altering existing circuits, not installing a new circuit.
  • c is right. The bottom of the EICR says it's issued with an inspection schedule, a schedule of test results and a schedule of circuit details. The Minor Works certificate is a single page used for an addition or alteration to an existing circuit.
  • d is out: there are two separate minor jobs on two circuits, so you need one Minor Works certificate for each. And there's no EICR.
Have you done any work? YES → certificate NO, checking existing → report EIC new circuit, new CU or new installation + schedules Minor Works (MEIWC) adding to or altering an existing circuit one page · one per job EICR (only one type of report) issued with: inspection schedule schedule of circuit details schedule of test results The café (Q4) sockets added to the ring → MEIWC · lights changed on the lighting circuit → MEIWC periodic of the existing installation → EICR + its schedules = answer c
Work done means a certificate, and checking existing work means a report. In the café you need two Minor Works certificates plus an EICR and its schedules.
