Exactly as they are on the site.
Your ordinary leads are about a metre long. A wandering lead (long lead) is a dedicated test lead on a reel, often around 50 m, so you can reach from the board to the far end of a circuit or out to a gas meter.
- Null it — all of it — or note its resistance and subtract it. Fifty metres of lead is a lot of resistance to leave in your answer.
- Unwind only what you need. The rest is a trip hazard across somebody’s floor, and a lead on the floor gets trodden on and damaged.
