The notes
Exactly as they are on the site.
Where the earth electrode test falls
TT systems only, and the position in the sequence depends on the method.
| Method | Where in the sequence | Note |
|---|---|---|
| E1 | Before supply polarity | The accurate method, using spikes |
| E3 | With the live tests — it is a loop impedance measurement | The one most people will use. Less accurate than E1, far more practical |
Ze — whose cable are you testing?
The DNO's. Ze is the loop outside your installation
| Instrument | Earth fault loop impedance tester |
| Between | Line and earth — using the earthing conductor |
| Where | The top terminals of the main switch, or the supply side of a separate isolator |
| Leads | Two-lead test (line–earth). Three-lead if the instrument needs line, neutral and earth |
It can be enquired. The DNO will give you a figure for the supply. Zs cannot be enquired, which is why it has to be calculated or measured.
