PAT insulation resistance, and polarityWhy switch it on before the insulation test?

The notes
Exactly as they are on the site.
Line and neutral pins joined with a clip, the other lead on the metal you can touch. 500 V DC.
- Switch the equipment on first, with all its covers in place. A switch left off leaves part of the live conductors out of the test.
- Shredder: >999 MΩ, class II minimum 2 MΩ. Hot plate: >999 MΩ, class I minimum 1 MΩ. Record the greater-than sign.
- Polarity: on a moulded plug, a multifunction tester can’t prove it — you can’t see inside. Record N/C, not checked — the key on Form 4.1. On a lead, polarity is checked by continuity, pin to matching contact (10.10(d), p.75): a dedicated PAT tester does it with its cord test.
Then functional: plug it in, it works, it switches off. Suitable for where it’s used? Suitable for continued use? Initials, and a pass sticker.
