Inspection is not a single visit at the end. It happens at first fix and second fix.
- First fix. Inspect the fixed wiring before anything is boarded over. Partially fill in the test result sheet — you are testing the cables, not the finished installation.
- Hand a copy over. Fill in the EIC as far as you can, copy it, leave the copy with the client or duty holder, keep one yourself.
- Second fix. Come back and test it all again.
- Compare. Any discrepancy between the two tells you something happened in between.
Why the comparison matters
Insulation resistance was fine at first fix. It fails at second fix. Something has happened in between — a cable cut, or the line and earth now touching somewhere along that run.
Offered as good practice rather than a rule. But it is the only way to genuinely verify work that is now hidden.
✋And leave it as you found it. If you open an inspection elbow or pull a trunking lid, make it good again. Walking away leaving exposed cable is worse than not looking.
