How to use practice questions for inspection and testingAre practice questions a way to revise?

The notes
Exactly as they are on the site.
Seventeen exam-style questions on inspection and testing, initial verification and periodic together. Each one is worked through: the answer, how to get there, and where it is in the book.
The book for this exam is Guidance Note 3 (GN3). Page numbers here are from the current edition; where none is given, find it by section number.
Mocks are not a way to revise. The people who fail again and again are usually the ones who keep doing mocks without changing how they learn. "If nothing changes, nothing changes." Use mocks to check your knowledge and your way around the book. Learning comes first. There's a separate masterclass on how to revise.
Two kinds of question
- Book questions: the answer is written in GN3. You need to know which section to go to. GN3's contents page is much less useful than BS 7671's index, but you can still use it.
- Knowledge questions: you won't find the answer written down. You need to understand why each test is done.
1. Throw out the wrong answers first. On many questions, two or three options are obviously wrong once you think about them.
2. Answer the question you're asked, not the one you'd like to be asked or what you'd do "in real life". It's multiple choice, so you work with the four options you're given.
3. Scenario details (e.g. "a building shared by several tenants") are often there to make it sound realistic. Don't get drawn in.
4. If you're stuck between two, the answer about safety is a good educated guess.
