Ask how often an office kettle needs inspecting and you'll get answers from weekly to annually. The book's answer is better than any of them.

✗There is no table of intervals in the current Code of Practice. No fixed interval is set by environment.

Because you cannot decide in advance how heavily something will be used. A school TV wheeled out twice a year and a projector used every day cannot sensibly share an interval.

So what's the answer in the exam? That frequency is determined by a risk assessment, based on the equipment, the environment and how much use and abuse it gets. Section 11.1 lists the risk factors, and Appendix 9 works through two example risk assessments (a retail outlet and a small manufacturing company).
✋A fixed interval ("every 12 months") is the wrong answer. The answer is a risk assessment.

Section 11 · frequency of inspection and testing · no fixed intervals · p.81 11.1 · risk factors Appendix 9 · example risk assessments · Tables A9.1 and A9.2 · p.125
