How BS 7671 is numberedWhat does 411.3.3 actually tell you?

The notes
Exactly as they are on the site.
This is the single most useful thing to know about the book. The numbering is not sequential page-filler — every digit tells you where you are.
1st digit = the Part · 2nd digit = the Chapter · 3rd digit = the Section · digits after the point = the regulation itself
So 411.3.3 reads as: Part 4 (protection for safety) → Chapter 41 (protection against electric shock) → Section 411 (automatic disconnection of supply) → regulation 3.3, which happens to be additional requirements for socket outlets.
A note of caution: the book itself says the numbering "follows a pattern and corresponding reference to this standard" and "does not therefore necessarily follow sequentially" — so don't expect every number in a range to exist.
