The notes
Exactly as they are on the site.
- Protective conductors connected. Check the main bonding is on: each bond was reconnected straight after its continuity test, and after the diverted-neutral checks. The test needs the installation connected to earth.
- Pilot and indicator lamps, and capacitors, disconnected — they give a false, low reading (section 4).
- Voltage-sensitive equipment disconnected — dimmers, touch switches, electronics. 500 V can damage them.
- The neutral isolated from earth — with the main switch off, the incoming neutral (which is joined to earth at the source, and on TN-C-S in the supply) is out of the test.
Then: unplug everything on socket circuits, remove the lamps on lighting circuits, and put the covers back on. You’re about to put 500 V on the circuit, and fingers can find exposed terminals.
