Diversity — Table A2

Diversity is the percentage of the connected load the designer expects to be in use at once

Nobody runs every hob, the grill and both ovens for ten hours a day, every day of the year. Perhaps at Christmas. Designing as though they did would mean oversized cables, oversized devices and an oversized supply, all paid for by the client.

✋Commercial and industrial kitchens are a different calculation. The assumption that the load is intermittent is a domestic assumption.

f.l. means full load

f.l. = full load. Not floor level

It appears throughout Table A2 and it is a genuinely common misreading — wondering why the area of the room has anything to do with it.

Test yourself on it
