A low-resistance ohmmeter throughout. The order catches people out:
| Order | What | Test |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Main protective bonding | R2 — end to end |
| 2nd | Lighting and radial circuits | R1+R2 |
| 3rd | Ring final circuits | Three steps — below |
✋Not the earthing conductor. The obvious answer is to start at the earthing conductor — but proving that is part of Ze, which is a live test and comes much later. Main protective bonding is a dead test and goes first.
R2 is not only for the green-and-yellow. It is an end-to-end test on any single conductor, proving there is no break in it. Step 1 of the ring test is three R2 tests — on line, on neutral, on CPC.
