A long run of cable clipped direct needs supports that will not fail in a fire.

Metal, fire-rated clips — because of premature collapse

Plastic clips soften and let go, dropping cable across an escape route or onto firefighters. That is what the requirement is there to prevent.

Spacing. On-Site Guide · Appendix D gives maximum clip distances, horizontal and vertical. Being slightly over will not fail an inspection on its own, but check it against the table.
The trade rule of thumb. A clip roughly every forearm or hammer length, with a metal clip one in three.
