Before anything comes off: main switch off, isolated, locked off. You are about to disconnect green-and-yellow, and if there were a fault while it was off, extraneous parts could become live.

Then there are two tests, not one:

TestWhat it proves
End to end of the conductor itselfThe bonding conductor is continuous — this is your r2
That end to the pipeThe BS 951 clamp is genuinely in contact with the pipe
The two readings should be low and close together — a jump between them points to the clamp

Take the higher of the two as your value — it is not written on the schedule (see below).

On the schedule it is a tick, not a number. "Continuity and connection verified" is a tick box. You do not write a figure in for bonding — you just satisfy yourself that both readings are low and close together. Do it for every bonding conductor: water, gas, oil, structural steel.

Test yourself on it

The tests are in the members’ area. Get one wrong and it shows you why, and where to revise.
